There is always a special occasion around the corner. A birthday, an anniversary, a graduation… You name it. And when is time of buying gifts and treats for ours loved ones, the majority of us will look online or perhaps visit our high street, buying from big chain stores that mass-produce their items. Of course, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Many mass-produced items are still made to a high level of quality, but we believe that maybe, it is time to buy something a little more unique and special. Something handmade.
So much so that we have put together this blog, detailing the reasons why it may pay to buy handmade in the future
A handmade item is better for the environment.
We are all much more aware of how we need to take care of the world around us, which means that we are looking for ways to reduce the impact that we have. One way that you may not realise is to buy handmade. Handmade items, particular jewellery are made on a small scale, usually in small premises using lots of hand-based techniques. This will produce a much lower amount of pollution than the large noisy factories that really take their toll on the environment.
When you buy something that is mass-produced, you are going to be buying something that is exactly the same as someone else has just bought. Not exactly special, when you think about it. The difference with handmade is that every single item is unique, it may not always notice, but there are going to be subtle differences that make it a one-off.
When you buy handmade you support your local economy and smaller businesses.
Small businesses are struggling in the economy. In order for them to succeed and grow, they need the support of consumers. When you buy something that is handmade, you are likely to be buying from a small business, often with only one or two people. Not only are you helping those people to make their dream come true, but you are also going to putting some money back into the UK economy. Which will help it to remain stable.
Ahandmade items are often made to last.
We live in a throwaway culture. We all to often buy things that are low quality and low price, only to have to throw them away after a short time. When someone makes a handmade item, they are usually making it to a high standard. Which means that it is durable and that it is going to last.
So, as you can see, it really does pay to buy handmade products, not only are you going to be helping someone else to achieve their dreams, but you are also going to be giving someone an amazing treat too. Which we think is pretty great for everyone!
Now we know a bit more about what buying handmade products means. But, I am sure you still having some questions for me?… Go ahead, leave them on the comments section below. We will be super happy to answer them!
